"A powerful engine to surpass oneself": Côte d'Azur athletes on fire at the World Police and Firefighter Championships

Fourteen gold medals, ten silver and fourteen bronze: the harvest was particularly fruitful for Team 06 this summer, during the 21st World Police and Fire Games , the World Games which bring together police officers, firefighters and special forces . 17 athletes out of the 50 that made up the French delegation, 38 of the 55 medals won: the Côte d'Azur team made a decisive contribution to the French record.

On September 16th, in Nice, Team 06 will celebrate its golden summer in the United States, near Birmingham. Members of security forces from around the world competed there from June 26th to July 6th, in a wide range of sporting events.

This year again, two firefighters from the Côte d'Azur walked on water in the pools. Firefighter Marion Natalicchi (Nice company) won four gold medals and one silver in swimming (18-29 age category), as well as bronze in the relay. Chief Warrant Officer Régis Courtin (Bon-Voyage barracks), head of the French delegation, won as many gold medals, and one bronze, in the 45-49 age group. Corporal Alexis Jacomet (Nice), Corporal Tiphaine Lemoigne (Antibes) and Sapper Sylvain Lecointe (Grasse) completed the strictly Côte d'Azur delegation. Team 06 also brought together athletes from Bouches-du-Rhône, Vaucluse, Orne, Val d'Oise, Paris, Lille, and even Cayenne and Tahiti.

These Games left Team 06 with "a strong feeling of pride and cohesion," said Régis Courtin. "Beyond the sporting performances, it was the team spirit, fair play, and fraternity that marked this edition. At each competition site, the encouragement resonated well beyond the colors or badges. It was a powerful driving force to surpass ourselves, support each other, and celebrate victories and efforts together."
